[Katrina-IT-Volunteers] Evacs leave without getting new address orphone into any website

Hi folks,

I'm a newbie.  Just joined the list today.  I don't quite know how to
join in the intake process, but assume that, having filled out the form,
I will be contacted.  I will also go to the katrina-it-volunteers site
tomorrow, log in & see if there are further instructions there
(tomorrow; I'm going to bed as soon as I send this).

That said, the real reason I'm writing is that, while I don't have any
understanding of the logistics, database types, etc., I'd be happy to
take data from intake and begin to enter it into redcross.org and/or
katrinasafe.org.

Is this a viable thing, or am I just blowin' smoke in the wind?

It appears that the database used to enter people when they first arrive
is 
a City of Austin database.  Contrary to what I had been told, it does
not 
appear that entries are transferred into either redcross.org (Family
Links) 
or katrinasafe.com.   I believe that people assume that since their data
is 
typed into a computer when they arrive, that it is being put on the
website.

Furthermore, people leave the facility without checking out, and
therefore 
without giving the conference center forwarding contact info.

People need to be prompted to put their new address and phone number
into 
the websites before they leave.  I'm trying to get signs put up.
ANYTHING 
YOU CAN DO TO SPREAD THE WORD WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
