[Katrina-IT-Volunteers] Notes from Saturday Evening

1) Computer use this evening was at least 75% for games, even for
adults. The big "GAMES OK" sign is now over the double row with 23
computers. On each of the 18 computers on the other double row is a
small bright orange paper taped to the bottom of the monitor with
"Adults Only." That way in the morning there will be reserved space for
adults.

2) The black notebook is now white! (black notebook started to fall
apart so I switched it with the white one - Austin Free-Net Volunteer
Orientation labels are now on the white notebook. In the front pocket
of the notebook are the volunteer schedules and email printouts that
were marked "put in black notebook). Any handwritten information,
personal information (such as evacuee's pay stub and another's medical
information) is clipped together in the back pocket.

3) All papers (included wall posters that were taken down when the
computers were moved) are collated and clipped together. Look for the
notebook and the handouts/posters in the green tote bag.

4) Supplies are under the card table in the green box.

Subject: [Katrina-IT-Volunteers] Notes from Saturday

* As of 3pm Saturday, the public computers are now where the original
registration/intake area was located. For folks that haven't
volunteered yet, it's in Hall 4 on the way to the cafeteria. As of
today they had less than 1500 people in the shelter. They're going to
start consolidating rooms, starting with Hall 1 in the south. Hall 4
to the north will be the last room of evacuees.

* We set up extra tables purposefully along the "corridor" towards
the cafeteria for crowd control.

* I set up the evacuee that came with his own computer in the corner,
so that he'd be a little farther from folks who were trying to sleep
at night if he was playing music.

* The lady in charge of signs came by late this afternoon. I spaced
on getting her name and contact information. But she'll be in charge
of moving the big "public computer" sign over as well as putting up a
big sign asking "have you registered with Red Cross for your family
to find you?". Might happen monday, I think she's off tomorrow (Sun).

* Things are still quieter than they were a few days ago. But some
folks are still trying to do FEMA forms online, etc. The RedCross is
trying to have everyone sit down with the official FEMA folks before
they leave the shelter, to make sure that the forms are filled out
correctly.

Glenn
