Hello and hope all is well -

The Balls are back in Austin from Los Angeles for this ridiculously hot summer and it was hotter than a Texas prison last Saturday in Fredericksburg at the Gillespie County Roots Music Festival. Thanks to all who braved the swampy Central Texas heat for blistering sets from Beatles experts, The Eggmen, rockabilly man Shaun Young and 3 Balls. This Saturday we'll be back at the Green Mesquite on Barton Springs for our annual 4th of July, "HOTTER THAN A PISTOL" concert where you can park, eat BBQ and hang with The Balls...then stroll over to the Lamar St. bridge for Austin's awesome fireworks blowout at 9PM, featuring the music of the Austin Symphony. Bring the whole family - all races welcome! The next week we will be at Evangeline Cafe so I hope to see you at one place or the other!

On a personal note, I am teaching at Natural Ear Music Camp again this summer and am having a blast as usual. In case you are not familiar with it, the camp offers kids through teens a chance to play in a band with others their own age, supervised by  experienced  Austin musicians. The "camp" is offered all summer in three, 3 week sessions for 4 hours a day. My kids (Backfire) are playing tomorrow, July 3 at Jovitas with several other bands starting at 5PM - 7:30PM. I've been playing bass with Davie Allan & The Arrows, subbing for my pal, Sam Bolle, and will be performing with the King of The Fuzz Guitar at the ultra cool Tiki Oasis Weekend in beautiful San Diego, CA. this August with Los Straitjacket Pete Curry on drums. And if that is a bit too exotic for you take a trip up I-35 to Oklahoma City for their big Okie Twist-Off in August. Hot Rod show and concert with a slew of cool bands. Balls play the kick-off party on Friday, Aug. 8th and the concert the next evening!
