"King of the Hot Rod Guitar"
Jerry Cole
LA studio superman, Jerry Cole is probably the most recorded guitarist in music history. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the business: Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Phil Spector, Beach Boys, The Byrds, Ricky Nelson and according to Jerry, "that was just the first day!" Band leader, solo artist, producer and member of the legendary wrecking crew - Jerry did it all, but his heart remained true to his Sunset Strip-era hot rod and go-go guitar workouts featured on his new CD for Ace Records.
For the almost the entire decade of the Sixties Cole recorded countless surf, hot rod, go-go, r&b, (that was Cole on the Champs' Tequila) easy listening and psychedelic Lps for Capitol, Liberty and budget-minded Crown Records. Found mainly in drugstores and supermarkets, Crown's $1.98 jewels were aimed right at exploiting whatever was hot in teen culture at the moment. Under an umbrella of aliases such as Psycho Cycles, The Hot Rodders and Guitars A Go Go, Jerry Cole provided the soundtrack for the times and "they sold 'em by the ton!".
The first installment of the Jerry Cole/Crown series on Ace Records has just been released and in support of the new CD, Hot Rod Twangin ~ The 1960's Crown Recordings, Cole will be playing selected dates in Texas and California. Backed by "The Men with the Burning Guitars", 3 Balls of Fire, Jerry will be performing songs from the new CD, the Capitol recordings and his new self-released surf CD, Back to the Boards. (And maybe even Tequila!) 3 Balls guitarist Burnin' Mike Vernon is the series producer for the Ace project and his red-hot band performed with Cole at the prestigious Austin Music Awards during SXSW this year.
