This page describes how to set up your computer to receive email from your account on SoAustin.net.
Before you begin you will need three things:
- The email address that we assigned to you.
- Your SoAustin account username. This typically is the part of your email address on the left of the "@" sign.
- The account password we initially assigned to you. We strongly urge you, before setting up email, to change this password to one that you choose. Click the "Change your password" link in the left sidebar.
Complete the following instructions to set up your mail program.
If you know a geek who will configure your email for you, here is the stuff they need to know:
- Incoming Server Type: POP3
- Incoming Mail (POP) Server: mail.soaustin.net
- Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: mail.soaustin.net
- We support (and strongly recommend enabling) secure email connections (SSL/TLS).
- Our mail server uses a self-signed certificate. You can download a copy from the link in the left sidebar.
- We support (and recommend) the alternate mail submission (port 587) service. You will need to use a secure connection (STARTTLS).
- We provide SPOP and SSMTP (ports 995 and 465) support, which is the crappy deprecated way Microsoft mail clients do secure connections. We recommend using them only with Outlook Express.
